The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has received its first MSMB 200 – a high-speed motorboat marking the beginning of a large-scale initiative to strengthen the Swedish Armed Forces’ maritime capabilities. Up to 100 boats may be delivered over the next seven years, making the program a key part of the development of Sweden’s coastal defence capabilities.
Technical Specifications and Operational Requirements
The MSMB 200 (Minor High-Speed Motorboat Type 200) is built in aluminium, measures just over 11 meters in length, and is equipped with a powerful inboard engine. The vessel has been developed to meet operational requirements within both the Swedish Navy and the Home Guard.
The boat is capable of transporting a crew of two together with 1.2 tonnes of cargo, making it a flexible and efficient platform for a wide range of maritime operations.
“Through the delivery of this vessel, we demonstrate our ability to combine a civilian platform with the demanding requirements of military use. The result is a modern, cost-efficient, and operationally relevant solution for the Swedish Armed Forces.”
– Johan Lantz, VD, Svekon

A framework agreement was signed in autumn 2024 between FMV and Svensk Konstruktionstjänst AB (Svekon), with manufacturing carried out by the Swedish boatbuilder Nimbus. The design is based on a proven civilian boat platform that has been adapted to meet military requirements.
This approach enables cost-efficient procurement while maintaining short delivery lead times. The result is a modern and purpose-built platform that fulfills the Swedish Armed Forces’ requirements for functionality, reliability, and operational usability.
